Our History

FE Club was started by a group of four engineering students in the Fall of 2008 to promote the discipline of Financial Engineering at the University of Illinois. Early on, we focused on company relations and managed to organize five company presentations in the first year. In 2009, our seminars program was born. We taught basics of financial instruments and even dabbled with some mathematical concepts. Since then, due to a lack of undergraduate curriculum in financial engineering, education has become one of our biggest priorities. By Fall of 2009, we continued to reach out to companies and other engineering organizations on campus; for the very first time, a company invited us for a happy hour event and a company visit. We look forward to more!

Our Mission - to Become Great Financial Engineers

Our mission is to better understand financial engineering by participating in captivating and up-to-date seminar programs, interacting with company representatives, listening to their experiences, attending field trips at companies and exchanges, and promoting a friendly and engaging environment for those who share a passion for financial engineering. Most importantly, we strive to learn to practice financial engineering with integrity and with awareness of community.

Our Vision - Financial Engineering is Good

Our vision is financial engineering is good. It's part of our lives, whether we see it or not. For instance, many take Wall Street for granted, but it is nevertheless both mysterious and influential. We believe through vision and perseverance, it's possible to become more knowleadgeable about one of the biggest driving forces of society. But due to extreme technical depths of it, the majority ignores the effects of Wall Street. We in the FE Club refuse to ignore it. Current events show our community wants an answer for Wall Street. What are all those "complex instruments"? What does it mean? We strive to cultivate more awareness of financial engineering by exposing it to as many people as possible. We hope that ten or twenty years from now, our club alumni will become experts in the field, sharing their wisdom with others, practicing integrity, and of course, pursuing happiness.
